Nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka, Hewahata offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. Embark on exciting excursions to explore lush landscapes, traditional villages, and tranquil tea plantations. Whether hiking through scenic trails or visiting local temples, attractions in Hewahata is a plenty and is a true haven for nature lovers and culture enthusiasts alike.

One Tree Hill

Just a few minutes’ walk or hike from the bungalow, is a favourite among our guests. This tranquil spot offers breathtaking 360-degree views of lush valleys, distant mountain ranges, and the serene Randenigala Reservoir. On clear days, you can even spot the majestic Parakrama Samudraya tank in Mahiyanganaya and Mount Pedro—Sri Lanka’s highest peak.

The hill is also home to the local cricket oval, where children and adults often gather for a friendly game as the sun sets, adding a touch of community spirit to the surroundings. In recent times, the site has become popular among campers and we are working closely with local villagers and authorities to help preserve the area’s natural beauty, ensuring it remains clean and minimally disturbed.

Mini World's End

A short distance away, Mini World’s End offers a more adventurous experience. The trail begins at the top of the plateau near the cricket oval, beside the tomb of John Spedding—former resident of the bungalow and manager of the Eastland Division. As you make your way through the path, you’ll pass a row of historic line houses, built over a century ago, and a modest Hindu temple constructed in the 1950s by Spedding himself.

The trail culminates at the edge of a dramatic cliff, offering sweeping views of the town of Padiyapelella, nestled around 400 metres below. The viewpoint is striking, though caution is advised on windy days due to the steep drop.

Spring Water Cascade

Just beyond the bungalow, a clear Spring Water Cascade flows gently through the forest, forming distinct pools and small waterfalls – perfect for a refreshing dip on a warm afternoon. The surrounding forest canopy provides cool shade and a tranquil setting that invites quiet reflection.

Ancient Caves

Nearby, two Ancient Caves can also be explored. One is easily accessible and only a ten-minute walk from the cascades. The second, about twenty minutes away, is nestled deeper within the forest and requires navigating through pine groves and rocky terrain. Though the trek has been completed by people of all ages, it requires careful planning and awareness of slippery surfaces, making it best suited for those with a moderate to high level of fitness.

Hewaheta

Hewaheta is a charming town where vibrant colours and a slower pace of life harmonize beautifully. At its heart, the Town Center is a lively hub with a traditional market, and the vibrant sights and sounds of daily life. The community, made up of diverse cultures, works together in harmony, contributing to the peaceful rhythm of the town. From farmers bringing in fresh produce to local artisans displaying their crafts, there is a genuine sense of unity here. Whether strolling through the markets or enjoying a cup of tea at a local tea shop, Hewaheta offers a tranquil escape, where the simplicity of life and the beauty of its surroundings come together perfectly.

Paddy Cultivation at Madumana

Our very own Paddy cultivation is located just a few minutes from Hewaheta, in a peaceful village called Madumana. The farming has been carried out by the same family, passed down through generations, using traditional methods with no ma-chinery involved. This commitment to heritage makes it a unique and authentic experience. The field is a great place to enjoy a cup of tea or a meal on a cool, sunny day, surrounded by the beauty of the countryside. The paddy is harvested twice a year—at the end of May and again in November. However, our rustic hut is open year-round, offering visitors a taste of homemade traditional snacks made from fresh, local produce.

Dungolla Water Falls

Dungolla Water Falls is a stunning location, perfect for capturing postcard-worthy photos and enjoying a refreshing dip. Located to the south of Hewaheta, the falls are accessible via a short walk from the main road to the designated safe bathing spot. However, it’s important to note that not all areas of the falls are suitable for swimming. We strongly recommend seeking advice from the locals about the safest spots for bathing, as some areas can be hazardous and have unfortunately resulted in fatalities.

Mandaram Nuwara

Mandaram Nuwara, often called the “Misty Town,” is a hidden gem nestled at the base of Pidurutalagala, Sri Lanka’s tallest mountain. Just a scenic 45-minute drive from the bungalow, this secluded village is wrapped in near-constant mist, giving it an almost mystical charm. Surrounded by emerald-green hills, cascading waterfalls, and terraced paddy fields, Mandaram Nuwara offers a breathtaking escape into nature. Its cool climate, crystal-clear streams, and tranquil pace of life make it an ideal destination for those seeking peace, natural beauty, and a glimpse into a simpler, slower way of living.
